Assistant Accountant (Financial)

About the role
The position reports to the Finance Manager and is responsible for supporting the finance team across various functions including financial reporting, private billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, residential finance, cashiers and credit management and capital accounting.
The successful appointee will be degree qualified with some initial experience gained working in a finance or corporate related function. They will be looking to advance their career working in finance and will be committed to delivering high level customer service as part of the overall finance team and prompt and friendly resolution of account queries to internal and external customers.
This is a fixed-term position to cover a period of maternity leave.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconciliations, End of Month processing, Journals, KPI Reports, Internal Audits, Accounts Payable posting and internal GST Audit, Asset Maintenance, Prepayments and other financial tasks as required.
- Deliver high level Customer Service as part of the overall finance team and prompt and friendly resolution of account queries to internal and external customers.
- To provide support to accountants and other finance staff within the finance team across a broad range of finance functions.
- Ensuring compliance with Grampians Health Policies and procedures.
- Assist with maintenance of the GH general ledger structure in accordance with DH guidelines to allow efficient reporting and monitoring.
- Liaise with the finance team closely to identify opportunities for improvement in processes and practices. This will include all facets from identification of an opportunity to the implementation of actions and ongoing review.
- Interpretation and implementation of accounting standards.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Demonstrated accounting industry experience with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven experience in reconciliations and analytical skills and excellent time management skills.
- Able to adapt to new challenges, demonstrated ability to work independently while being part of a team within a busy finance environment.
- Proven experience of liaising with internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner, including the ability to train staff in financial matters and systems.
- Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ensuring effective oral and written communication skills, and experience of communicating with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
- High level of computer skills and an aptitude for systems.
