Biomedical Technologist - Grade 3

About the Role

The Biomedical Technologist reports to the Biomedical & Electronics Supervisor and is responsible for assembling, installing, repairing, calibrating, inspecting, and performing preventative maintenance on biomedical & electronics equipment. This role ensures that equipment complies with applicable medical safety standards.

The Technologist works within a specialised team with limited guidance to provide service and support for a variety of biomedical & electronics equipment across all Grampians Health campuses.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Regular inspection, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic equipment across Grampians Health campuses, with occasional travel and overnight stays.
  • Perform acceptance testing and documentation of electronic equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards (AS3003, AS3551, AS3760, AS2500).
  • Maintain communication systems such as electronic paging, telephone, and overhead paging systems.
  • Adhere to the Programmed Maintenance System, managing work orders, service records, spare parts, and manuals.
  • Assist in maintaining stock levels of components, spares, and loan equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Participate in weekend work, after-hours callouts, and provide in-service training to staff on equipment operation and support to Grade 1 & 2 Biomedical Technologists.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Diploma in Electronics, Trade qualifications (or equivalent) or relevant years’ experience in maintaining electronic/electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of AS3760, AS2500, AS3003, AS3551 standards, electronics systems, IT systems, and proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ensure safety compliance, effective maintenance, excellent work ethic, and active participation in meetings and mandatory training.
  • High attention to detail, strong customer service, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and the ability to handle time-critical situations.
  • Strong time management, initiative, excellent communication skills, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
