Join our collegiate General Paediatric service as a consultant Paediatrician in the beautiful city of Ballarat.
Ballarat is a town of over 100,000 residents 90 minutes west of Melbourne, close to wineries, mountain hiking, spa towns and not far from coastal beaches. It also has a rapidly growing cultural life of its own, with plenty of restaurants, bars, music and theatre. We provide paediatric care to the Grampians Region extending to the South Australian border. There is a diverse range of patients that are often not managed directly by general paediatrics in the metropolitan setting, along with a high acuity neonatal throughput. We support our trainees to gain a true experience of general paediatrics. There is also a broad range of outreach services.
About the Role
As a General Paediatrician, you will diagnose and manage a broad array of acute and chronic paediatric health issues, providing comprehensive and compassionate care to the children of Ballarat and surrounding regions.
Grampians Health Ballarat Children’s ward is a 20-bed Paediatric & Adolescent Unit and a 10-bed Level 4 Special Care Nursery. We also operate a Paediatric Day Medical Unit (embedded within the Paediatric Ward) and non-complex general, orthopaedic and ENT surgical services for children.
- We have 24-hour on-site staffing from Paediatric.
- Residents and Registrars, as well as 24-hour on call Paediatric consultant staffing provided by eight Paediatric Fractional specialists, as well as extensive public and private paediatric outpatient services. We currently see more than
- 60,000 presentations per year in our Emergency department, with over 17,000 of these under the age of 18 years.
- The role includes both acute paediatric and neonatal work (Level 4 special care nursery) and supporting a Regional model of care which includes regional outpatient clinical service to Horsham, Stawell, Maryborough and Ararat.
- The role involves working closely with the paediatric registrars, HMOs, nursing and clinic staff and supporting education to our other Grampians sites.

To be Successful in this Role, you will:
- Have recognised qualifications as a General Paediatrician with experience in managing patients across acute, general, developmental & behavioural paediatric medicine.
- Requirements for the position are a current AHPRA registration and specialty recognition through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
- All appointments are subject to a satisfactory Police Records Check & Immunisation Clearance.
- Have recent acute inpatient experience at Senior Registrar or Consultant level,
- Contribute to a positive organisational culture and role model professionalism with respect to patient dignity & compassion, effective communication, accountability, innovation and ethical clinical care.
