The Victorian Government has allocated funds to support rural and regional Area Mental Health Services (AMHS) to provide incentives to attract workers to roles that are difficult to fill.

The new workforce relocation and incentive grants program is being administered by Rural Agency Workforce Victoria (RWAV).

About the role
The Steele Haughton Unit (SHU) offers specialist mental health treatment and care for clients over the age of 65.  In this unit, we have 10 short-term acute mental health inpatient beds and 20 residential beds. 

The Steele Haughton Unit offers continuing professional development in-house with scheduled, regular sessions and individual/group sessions provided as needed with acute and residential educators. All staff are supported by a strong team culture, and staff new to the Mental Health field are provided with training and support to further develop skills. 

As part of wider mental health services, SHU implements Safewards principles (a model designed to improve safety of everyone in the environment by reducing conflict and flashpoints) and commence recovery-oriented practice. 

The Steele Haughton Unit provides opportunities for staff to grow professionally by being part of working groups/champions of initiatives.  

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake MSE's and risk assessments
  • Provide information and education to clients, family and significant others
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation 
  • Participate in unit portfolio's in discussion with NUM
  • Contributes to quality healthcare through personal and professional development
  • Participates in the provision of patient/ resident focused, holistic care

 

Skills and experience

  • Hold a current Nursing Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse Div 1
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of care which focuses on the individual and support networks
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute and practice collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrates sound level of nursing skills and works within safe practice principles
  • Commitment to flexibility and innovation in practice including an evidence-based approach to care
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and maintain positive and constructive relationships with patients/residents, families, significant others, colleagues and other health service providers.

This position is paid in accordance with the Victorian Public Mental Health Services Enterprise Agreement. The classification is Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 (NP21 - NP26) which ranges from $34.68 - $48.99 per hour.
