About the Grampians Public Health Unit (GPHU)

Established in 2021, the GPHU is one of nine local public health units in Victoria. Covering 11 Local Government Areas and serving over 250,000 people, the GPHU leads communicable disease control, health promotion, environmental health, and disease prevention across the Grampians region. Our purpose is to promote health, prevent disease, and protect community wellbeing.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and support to Public Health Officers, acting as the primary escalation point for clinical and operational issues.

  • Conduct case and contact interviews, including those involving high-risk or sensitive settings.

  • Plan and coordinate outbreak responses and other public health interventions.

  • Support the Operations Manager Health Protection in building a high-performing and engaged team.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective public health planning and delivery across the region.

  • Promote professional development, competence, and performance within the team.

 

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Current Authority to Practise as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.

  • Nurse Immuniser qualifications.

  • Minimum 5 years’ clinical experience.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to build a highly engaged team culture.

  • Strong knowledge of clinical processes and healthcare systems.

  • Skilled in staff development, capability frameworks, and workplace-based learning.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 platforms.

  • Strong organisational skills, technology literacy, and problem-solving ability.

 

Desirable

  • Authorised Officer under the Public Health & Wellbeing Act 2008.

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Infection Prevention & Control and/or Public Health.

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or working towards).
