About the Role
As the Planned Surgery Liaison Nurse, you’ll be the driving force behind a smooth, streamlined, and patient-focused surgical journey. Working hand-in-hand with the Head of Unit and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, you'll serve as the consistent go-to expert, responsible for:
- Leading triage, support, and clinical coordination for elective surgical patients
- Managing the elective surgery waitlist while keeping key performance indicators on track
- Maximising theatre efficiency through smart resource planning
- Ensuring seamless communication across all stakeholders
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver evidence-based clinical care, supporting patients and carers through assessment, care planning, treatment, education, and discharge coordination.
- Develop and document treatment plans in collaboration with consultants, clinical staff, and patients to ensure clear communication and continuity of care.
- Engage in professional development through supervision, training, and maintaining competencies to support quality healthcare delivery.
- Manage business operations by working within budgets, tracking key performance indicators, and contributing to audits and reports on surgical service performance.
- Drive clinical governance and quality improvement by participating in guideline reviews, risk identification, research, and ensuring thorough surgical booking processes.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary collaboration and resources by organizing theatre lists, liaising with nursing staff, and promoting evidence-based care pathways.
Skills & Experience
- Registered Nurse with extensive years of clinical experience.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills in healthcare.
- Self-motivated, works independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Committed to quality improvement, risk management, and best practice.
- Skilled in Office software, databases, and patient management systems.
- Knowledgeable of DoH policies, elective surgery, and governance rules.
