About the Role

The Elective Surgery Liaison Nurse plays a vital role in ensuring efficient, effective, and comprehensive patient flow within the elective surgery pathway. Working collegially with the relevant Head of Unit and collaboratively with all other stakeholders, this position will provide a consistent point of contact and have responsibility for:

  • Facilitating the triage, support, assessment, and management of elective surgical patients.
  • Elective surgery waitlist management and associated KPI’s.
  • Efficient use of resources when constructing theatre lists Communication between relevant stakeholders 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based, coordinated care by supporting patients and carers through assessment, planning, education, and discharge within a multidisciplinary framework.
  • Develop and document treatment plans with consultants and staff; ensure timely access to surgery, appropriate theatre bookings, and continuity of care.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement, risk identification, and guideline reviews to ensure safe, high-quality orthopaedic care.
  • Engage in supervision, maintain competencies, set professional goals, and participate in ongoing education and performance reviews.
  • Support data entry, reporting, correspondence, and performance tracking against KPIs such as wait times, readmission rates, and theatre efficiency.
  • Adhere to policies, maintain confidentiality, support inclusive and safe workplace practices, and demonstrate commitment to patient-centred care and diversity. 

 

Skills & Experience 

  • AHPRA registration as a Nurse or Allied Health Practitioner.
  • Proven commitment to quality improvement, clinical risk management, and evidence-based practice.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, clinical databases, and patient management systems (e.g. IBA).Knowledge of DoH policy, Elective Surgery Access Policy, and relevant governance frameworks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Professional body membership, familiarity with Redesign methodology, financial literacy, and clinical knowledge of orthopaedic care pathways.
