About the Role

This is primarily a supportive role to the lead CNC  Pain Service  Coordinator, contributing to innovation and best-practice acute pain management in line with Australian and industry standards. The role is a key member of the Pain Service within the Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, ensuring optimal acute pain management for all patients, including paediatrics. It supports the ongoing education of staff, promotes evidence-based practice, and assists nursing teams across Grampians Health Ballarat to deliver high-quality, patient-centred pain care. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist clinical support for pain management through consultation with nursing staff, multidisciplinary teams, and consumers, including clear documentation and communication of Acute Pain Service plans.

  • Monitor and audit analgesic practices, adverse events, and clinical issues within the Pain Service, with dissemination of findings and risk management through RiskMan analysis.

  • Maintain and update pain management policies, protocols, and clinical standards to ensure safe, evidence-based practice.

  • Lead and deliver education in pain management, including competency frameworks for programmable analgesic devices and broader pain-related education to support staff compliance.

  • Contribute to service improvement by maintaining clinical expertise and participating in the evaluation of new equipment, products, and innovations relevant to the Acute Pain Service.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Eligible for AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse Division 1, with a minimum of five years’ relevant clinical experience in an Australian hospital and demonstrated expertise and interest in pain management.

  • Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, engaging and supporting staff to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.

  • Holds (or is working towards) relevant postgraduate qualifications, with ideally a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent), and involvement in professional organisations and education.

  • Advanced clinical competence in acute pain management, including regional and intravenous programmable analgesic devices, supported by strong research, audit, and analytical skills.

  • Highly developed communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills, strong computer literacy, and a professional approach aligned with Grampians Health Ballarat values and behaviours.

This position is paid in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2024 - 2028 and relavent clinical experience. The classification is Clinical Nurse Consultant (ZF4-ZA7) which ranges from $59.79 - $68.07 per hour.
