About the Role

Grampians Health is seeking an experienced Communication and Media Officer to help build the profile and reputation of the Grampians Public Health Unit (GPHU) across the Grampians Region and Victoria.

This role is responsible for developing and implementing an integrated and innovative communications, media, and content strategy that promotes public health awareness, strengthens community and stakeholder engagement, and builds confidence in population health and prevention activities.

Working closely with the Health Protection team, Public Health Physicians and Population Health staff, you will play a key role in ensuring the GPHU’s messages are engaging, accurate, and impactful across all media and communication channels.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of the GPHU Communication and Engagement Strategy, ensuring coordinated, effective, and timely media and stakeholder engagement.

  • Oversee content creation and management for the GPHU website, social media, digital and print materials, and media responses.

  • Produce and review written materials including reports, fact sheets, and briefings, ensuring high quality and relevance for target audiences.

  • Develop and manage the GPHU’s web and social media presence to enhance visibility and reach.

  • Coordinate virtual and online engagement activities and stakeholder meetings.

  • Manage the Grampians Region Communications Network, including processes for sharing prevention, population health and research resources across the region.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, media, social media, multimedia, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing media and communication strategies, including both digital and traditional channels.

  • Demonstrated experience writing media releases, crafting op-eds, pitching stories, and working with journalists to communicate complex ideas effectively.

  • Strong understanding of digital media platforms, audience engagement, and reputation management.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with an ability to craft compelling, high-impact messages.

  • Experience developing and delivering marketing and communication initiatives within set budgets and timelines.
