About the Role
The Director, Mental Health will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Grampians Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (GMHWS). Working collaboratively with the GMHWS leadership team—including the Clinical Director, Director of Nursing, and Director of Lived and Living Experience—the role ensures the delivery of high-quality, responsive services with a strong focus on consumer and carer experience.
This role offers significant scope to shape service delivery, lead system reform, and influence mental health outcomes across a large regional catchment. You will work closely with executive leaders, clinicians, consumers, carers, and community partners to deliver safe, high-quality, and sustainable mental health services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership, guidance, and support across GMHWS to enable service excellence.
- Lead the delivery of mental health services across Grampians Health.
- Develop, implement, and monitor strategic and operational plans aligned with organisational and system priorities.
- Manage operational budgets to support sustainable and effective delivery of services.
- Ensure compliance with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 and related legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Establish and maintain strong governance, quality, safety, and clinical service frameworks.
- Proactively identify and lead service improvement opportunities to ensure program sustainability and effectiveness.
- Monitor legislative and policy developments and assess implications for service delivery and operations.
- Lead workforce planning, communication and change management
- Build and sustain strong internal and external partnerships, including with consumers, carers, and community stakeholders.
Skills & Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification in health, management, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience leading mental health programs and services, with a strong emphasis on consumer and carer-centred care.
- Demonstrated senior leadership and management capability within a healthcare setting.
- Strong understanding of mental health policy, service frameworks, and system reform.
- Proven knowledge of quality, safety, and risk management frameworks, including Victorian mental health legislation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and embed change within complex service environments.
