FaPMI Community Worker (Families where a Parent has a Mental Illness)

$42.50 to $47.72 per hour plus salary packaging 
Permanent Part Time Position - 40 hours per fortnight

 

About the Role

The Families where a Parent has a Mental Illness (FaPMI) program aims to improve outcomes for parents, children, and families by reducing the impact of parental mental illness. This is achieved through timely, coordinated, preventative, and supportive interventions within Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing Services (AMHWS).

We are seeking an experienced FaPMI Community Worker – Children and Young People (FaPMI CYP Worker) to support children and young people up to 25 years of age, including young carers. This role plays a key part in delivering a whole-of-family approach to care and strengthening early intervention and prevention outcomes.

FaPMI Statewide is responsible for coordinating the FaPMI program across Victoria and provides ongoing support to FaPMI Coordinators and FaPMI CYP Workers embedded within AMHWS services.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide practical support, information, and referrals for children and young people, including access to appropriate peer support programs.
  • Co-facilitate groups for children and young people in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate access to transport for young people, where appropriate.
  • Support children, young people, and families to access financial assistance through the FaPMI brokerage fund, in collaboration with the FaPMI Coordinator.
  • Promote awareness of young carer supports across the community by building strong relationships with local schools and youth-focused organisations.
  • Contribute to integrated, family-centred service delivery within a multidisciplinary mental health setting.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant qualification, such as Certificate IV in Community Development (CHC42115) or equivalent.
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of young caring roles and the impact on health and wellbeing.
  • Sound understanding of mental health and community service systems.
  • Experience working with children and young people, including group-based interventions.
  • Ability to work from a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented framework.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and service partners.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
