RANZCP Psychiatry Training Program

Grampians Health is excited to offer 4 first year Psychiatry Registrar positions for the 2027 intake, in addition to multiple other Stage 2/3 accredited training positions with Community Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit, Youth Services, Consultation Liaison Services, Aged Psychiatry Unit and the Parent and Infant Unit. Our training program provides all mandatory rotations and offers registrars the opportunity to work and live in the regional area with access to the best schools in Victoria. The first year inpatient rotation is based in our 23 bed Adult In-patient Unit at Ballarat, supported by SIMG Senior Registrars and PMCV PGY2 HMOs. Trainees are supervised by RANZCP accredited Consultant Supervisors.

Grampians Health RANZCP accredited Psychiatry positions include:

  • Perinatal Psychiatry – Parent and Infant Unit, Ballarat
  • Community Psychiatry – Albert Street, Ballarat
  • Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry – Ballarat Base Hospital
  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry – Norman Street, Ballarat campus
  • Youth Psychiatry - Albert Street, Ballarat
  • Acute Adult Inpatient – near Queen Victoria Building, Ballarat
  • Aged Psychiatry – Steele Haughton Inpatient Unit – Dana Street, Ballarat
  • Positions at PARC, Eating Disorder, AoD services & Forensic Psychiatry will be accredited over the next 12 months.

Education

Grampians Health offers an attractive stage specific in house education program and offers protected time for weekly education program which includes case presentations, journal clubs and regular faculty teaching on psychiatry related topics. First year registrars receive additional case-based teaching at the QVB Building. Exam preparation courses are being organized by the service, as is supervision for the psychotherapy long case. Registrars will also have a range of opportunities to complete their scholarly project through our links with University of Melbourne and Deakin University in addition to Statewide Perinatal mental health Specialists Network.

Attractive on-call structure and ample work support from a dedicated team of 4-5 Senior Registrars on PC-SIMG pathway. In addition, there are 4 PMCV accredited PGY2+ HMOs supporting the In-patient unit, SECU and PARC teams.
