Public Health Medicine Registrar

43 Hours per week | Available from late September 2026

About the Role

The Grampians Public Health Unit (GPHU) is seeking a Public Health Medicine Registrar to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute to the Unit's health protection, disease prevention and health promotion functions while growing experience and skills in public health medicine practice. The GPHU Public Health Medicine registrar will learn about the professional responsibilities of clinical leadership & development, and core competencies of the public health medicine curriculum while working with GPHU staff specialists and other highly skilled diversely qualified professionals.

Training will include opportunity to focus in one or more of the GPHU’s pillars covering the breadth of public health practice:

• Health protection
• Health Promotion and disease prevention
• Population health and its social and other determinants

Key Responsibilities (to be completed under supervision)

• Learn about and support emergency management activities as required and assist in the response to public health incidents and emergencies and
• Undertake research in public health and epidemiology, population health, communicable diseases and infection control
• Participate in the GPHU on-call roster as required
• Apply expertise in risk-informed situation analysis and make appropriate decisions in a timely manner to ensure the needs of patients, staff, organisation and community are met
• As needed participate in training and supervision of registrars, other staff and students

Skills & Experience

• General registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
• Master’s degree in public health (or equivalent or higher qualification)
• Eligible for (or currently undertaking) advanced training with the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM).

Candidates must apply to each organisation they are interested in working for individually; however, candidates do not have to apply to all participating organisations. All applications must be submitted by midnight on Sunday 16 August 2026. Interviews will be held for participating organisations between Monday 17 August and Friday 28 August. Each organisation will conduct their own interviews, and interview processes may differ between organisations. Following interviews, offers will be made to candidates between Monday 31 August and Friday 11 September.

Individual candidates may receive initial offers from multiple organisations and will be given a strict timeframe to decide whether to accept or reject the offer. Once a successful candidate accepts an offer from an organisation, they are removed from the recruitment pool and will not receive further offers from any other organisation participating in this process. Candidates may reject all initial offers. These candidates may receive a further offer from another organisation during the recruitment period; however, this cannot be guaranteed.
