Grampians Health Ballarat has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and customer‑focused individual to join our Switchboard and Enquiries team on a casual basis. This frontline role provides professional and compassionate support to patients, visitors, and staff, while playing a vital role in hospital communications and emergency response. The Switchboard and Enquiries team operates seven days a week between 7.00am and 11.00pm, requiring flexibility and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment. The successful applicant must be available to undertake four weeks of full‑time, paid on‑the‑job training upon commencement.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality, professional, and compassionate customer service when managing incoming, outgoing, and internal calls via the Ballarat Base Hospital main switchboard
- Coordinate and broadcast emergency code announcements, ensuring clear, calm, and accurate communication during critical incidents
- Provide friendly and responsive front‑of‑house enquiries and reception services to patients, visitors, and staff at the main Enquiries Desk
- Monitor and respond to hospital alarms promptly and professionally in accordance with procedures
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, clinical teams, and hospital services to support effective communication and seamless service delivery
- Demonstrate flexibility to work across the full range of operational hours, including additional shifts as required
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service, with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment, prioritising tasks and managing challenging interactions calmly and professionally
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change, new systems, and processes
- Strong computer literacy, with experience using a range of applications, and previous customer service and/or clerical experience
- Experience in a switchboard, call centre, or reception role and/or within a health care environment is highly regarded and well suited to this position
Mandatory Application Requirements:
- Be available to work across the full range of operational hours from 7am to 11pm Monday to Sunday.
- Be able to provide a minimum of 2 referees: 1 being your current or most recent direct manager and the other(s) an additional manager or supervisor
