Senior Medical Officer (SMO) at the Horsham Emergency Department, reporting to the Head of Unit, Horsham ED. This role is based in Horsham, Victoria, and is offered on a permanent part-time basis, with the quantum of weekly hours and start date to be agreed to after further discussions.
About the Role
In this role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical care and leadership within the Emergency Department, supporting junior staff, and contributing to the ongoing development of emergency services in the region. We are confident that your expertise and commitment to patient care will make a significant impact.
As one of the senior doctors in the ED, we are keen to utilise your expertise by having you participate in the overnight on-call roster from time to time.
The proposed remuneration for this arrangement is –
- One sessional payment for each night on-call
- Recall travel: one hour of travel paid at your base hourly rate
- In-person attendance: paid at 200% of your base hourly rate for the duration of your attendance.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-line care and clinical leadership in ED - Refer complex cases to FACEM or manage independently if no FACEM rostered on - May be rostered after-hours or weekends - Supervise HMOs and CMOs
Skills & Experience
- FACRRM or FRACGP - At least 2 years ED experience required - ALS2
Renumeration
You will be employed under the Medical Specialists Enterprise Agreement 2022–2026, as you currently or will very soon, hold specialist registration with AHPRA. This entitles you to all the benefits of the Agreement except that we will not require you to perform any non-clinical duties and therefore will not be offering any Clinical Support Time (CST). However, as the Emergency Department evolves, this may be revised. Your classification and associated rate of pay will be determined principally based on the date you obtained your specialist qualification and the fraction of full time that you are employed, in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement.
